North Island Marching Championships
Saturday 9 December | 12noon start
Marching Wellington will be hosting the North Island Marching Championships at the Te Rauparaha Arena.
The competition will bring over 20 teams from all over the North Island (Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Waikato) into the city - these teams will compete in both Technical Drill and Display Marching.
The Technical Drill routines are a traditional military style of marching with compulsory drills and set pieces to traditional marching music.
The Display phase is performed to the teams own choice of music, using movements that must correlate to the music and should demonstrate a variety and versatility of marching skills.
There are four age groups competing on the day: Under 12, Under 16, Senior and Masters. Last year all four grades were won by the Wellington teams and they are working very hard to try and make that happen again this year.
Each team have their own uniform and colourful styles that only enhance the spectacle of the competition.
Entry fee for spectators is only $2, which includes a free programme with the running order for the day.
