Haere mai, everyone's welcome at our fabulous pool complex at Te Rauparaha Arena. Arena Aquatics is an indoor heated facility with a lane pool, leisure pool, toddlers' pool, lazy river, wave pool, hydroslide, spa pools, sauna, steam room and café.

Opening hours

PLEASE NOTE:

The last entry for the pools is at 8:30pm on weekdays and 6:30pm on weekends.

To ensure we are able to clean our facility before it closes, you must leave the pool 15 mins prior to closing time.

Monday – Friday 5.30am – 9.00pm*
Saturday – Sunday 8.00am – 7.00pm
Public Holidays 8.00am – 7.00pm
Anzac Day Noon – 7.00pm

*On Thursdays the Spas and Toddler Pool close at 8pm for cleaning.

*Supervising means ACTIVELY supervising; watching your children at ALL times and being able to provide immediate assistance.

General Pool Rules

It is essential that the behaviour of customers does not detract from the enjoyment of others or represent a risk. Pool staff will also communicate rules verbally to bathers, as necessary.

  • Parents and caregivers have primary responsibilities for the care and safety of children with them
  • Must actively supervise
  • Must be able to see the children at all times
  • Weak or non-swimmers must have an adult in the water that is within arm’s reach at all times.
  • Always take direction from the lifeguards
  • Children under 130cm are not permitted in the spas, however use of the Toddler’s Pool with a caregiver is welcome
  • All children under 5 years must be within arm’s-reach of a caregiver 16 years or over at all times.
  • Children under 10 years must be actively supervised by a caregiver 16 years or over (watching at all times and able to provide immediate assistance).

  • No running or pushing on poolside. This is dangerous as the floor is wet and therefore may present a slip hazard.
  • No dive bombing (unless a programmed activity)
  • No flip dives
  • No rough play
  • Don’t swear or use obscene or insulting language
  • Don’t act in an offensive or disorderly manner
  • Use of camera of any form are prohibited in the changing rooms
  • No leaning or climbing on lane ropes
  • No acrobatics in or around the poolside
  • No dunking – this is dangerous as it can cause panic and alarm.
  • Personal effects should not be left in changing rooms
  • No unsafe conduct, rough behaviour or swearing
  • No bombing, staples or jumping etc. The starting blocks are for structured use only.
  • No glass bottles or containers in the facility.
  • All rubbish must be put in the bin provided.
  • No thieving, damaging or tagging property of the council or other pool users.
  • No interfering with structured or other pool users’ activities.
  • Aqua jogging belts are not for children.
  • No photography – do not allow people to film or take photography either from poolside unless prior permission has been granted from the Duty Manager
  • Recognised swimwear must be worn at all times – T-shirts may be allowed if agreed beforehand. There may be a need for sensitivity to the religious and cultural needs of some ethnic groups.
  • No shouting or unnecessary distracting of the pool staff
  • Floating mats and other inflatable toys should be kept in the shallow end of the pool while the waves are on.

  • No Smoking in any part of the facility (including the BBQ area).
  • No spitting
  • No alcohol
  • Swimwear must be worn at all times when in the pool (no street clothes or underwear)
  • Babies and toddlers who are not toilet trained must wear aqua-nappies
  • Young children must wear tight fitting togs
  • Swimmers must shower before entering the pool
  • Sauna and steam room users must shower before entering the pools
  • Don’t use soap, shampoo, shavers in the pools areas
  • Food must be consumed behind the barriers. Chewing gum is not allowed in the facility.
  • Don’t change babies on the poolside tables
  • No littering – use the rubbish bins provided

These rules and policies relate to all Arena Aquatic Centre users. Lifeguards can stop all activities that are deemed dangerous, unhygienic or that could interfere with other users of the facility.
